Fèis Academy
The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), UHI Millennium Institute (UHI), Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (SMO) and Fèisean nan Gaidheal (FnG) are to explore jointly various options for establishing and operating the new body which is intended to promote and develop traditional music, drama and dance.
The initiative takes its name from the extremely successful Fèis movement that attracts thousands of young people each year to tuition festivals of traditional music, drama and dance, held mainly in the Highlands and Islands, but with an increasing number outwith.
“This is absolutely necessary,” said John Wallace, RSAMD Principal, “to cope with the incredible demand for traditional music that has built over the last ten years from all over Scotland. We’re seeing wonderfully talented young people come through our doors for our Scottish Music degree but we’re bursting at the seams – we need to create more opportunities.”
