Podcast Pilot Project

Podcast Pilots

A brand new development for the delivery of Fèis Rois education programmes got underway recently at Scoraig, Achiltibuie and Ullapool Primary schools.  Fèis Rois has collaborated with Chris Smith from Chris Smith Associates and musicians Calum MacCrimmon, Eilidh MacKenzie and Maggie MacDonald to record traditional music tuition sessions that will become podcasts.

The one hour session the pupils received in either tin whistle or Gaelic song was recorded as well as some warm up exercises and hints and tips from the tutors.

The podcasts will not replace live tuition sessions but will be another way for children to practice at both home and school before their next tuition visit.

Fèis Rois Education Officer Allison Watson said:

' In the long term schools and Fèis Rois musicians should be able to record their own podcasts. We hope that schools will begin to build up a whole new social network which stimulates children  to listen to each other's podcasts and go online to give feedback and encouragement."

This pilot project has been funded by the Scottish Arts Council's Traditional Musicians in Schools scheme.
