teenage gaelic speakers get ready to tread the boards

Monday 1st September 2014

A Gaelic Youth Theatre festival ‘Fèis Dràma Dheugairean’ will be held at Eden Court in Inverness on Wednesday the 10th of September 2014.   The festival, hosted by Eden Court CREATIVE in partnership with Fèisean nan Gàidheal, will feature Gaelic plays from three Gaelic Youth Theatres, from Tain, Dingwall and Inverness, with the first performance at 6.30pm.  Tickets are £4.  Tickets can be booked online through the Eden Court website.

  • ‘Lean do chridhe’ (Follow your heart) by TÒG Bhaile Dhubhthaich focuses on a teenage celebrity who wants to take a new direction in her life.
  • ‘Àm na buana’ (Harvest time) from TÒG Inbhir Pheofharain sees how two friends combat school bullying with help from the internet.
  • ‘Ainglean’ (Angels) by Sgioba Dràma Òigridh Inbhir Nis – written by Pauline MacLynn and translated into Gaelic by Eden Court CREATIVE’s Roddy Nicolson – sees a group of young strangers gather in an old graveyard for a community project, watched over by three angels.

Through support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s ‘Gaelic Drama Network’ scheme, Fèisean nan Gàidheal and Eden Court are working together to increase the opportunities for Gaelic speaking high school pupils in Highland to learn drama skills and perform through the medium of Gaelic.  More information about the Gaelic Youth Theatre’s in Tain and Dingwall can be found on the Fèisean nan Gàidheal website.
