Hùb and Hàb Back on Tour

A second tour of Hùb Hàb air Ghleus, Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Gaelic play for early years groups, took place last week in the Central Belt and Perthshire.

‘Hùb Hàb air Ghleus’ (Hùb Hàb in Tune) is based on the theme of music and song which is explored through the friendship of the characters Hùb and Hàb.  During the play these characters help each other to discover their own musical gifts.   Actors MJ Deans (Hùb) and Calum Barker (Hàb) toured the play and was enjoyed by children from Gaelic parent and toddler groups, playgroups, nurseries and primary schools in Glasgow, Bishopbriggs, Airdrie, East Kilbride, Kilmarnock, Perth, Aberfeldy and Edinburgh.

The five-day tour started on Monday 13th June at Glasgow Gaelic School Nursery and the final performance was on the morning of Friday the 17th June for Cròileagan Dhùn Èideann at Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce in Edinburgh.  The play is aimed at the 3-5 year age group but is also suitable for young primary school children.  At some of the performances, primary one and primary two pupils from the attached Gaelic medium school were also in attendance.

This tour follows on from the success of the initial tour in April that was aimed specifically at Gaelic nurseries in the Central Belt.

‘Hùb Hàb air Ghleus’ was written and directed by Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Drama Officer Angus Macleod, with additional musical support from Gaelic singer Kirsteen Graham and Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Fèisgoil Manager Eilidh Mackenzie, who also wrote some of the song material specifically for the play.

In September Hùb Hàb air Ghleus will tour schools and nurseries in the Highland Council area in as part of Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Blas Festival.

Fèisean nan Gàidheal is very grateful for the funding provided by Bòrd na Gàidhlig to deliver its existing drama service and to develop and deliver new drama projects for early years age groups.
