A Highland tour of Hùb Hàb air Ghleus (Hùb Hàb in Tune), a Gaelic play aimed at early years age groups, begins today in Thurso. Young children throughout the Highland Council region will have the opportunity to see the play during a tour that features as part of the Blas Festival‘s School Events programme. This tour will run for 10 days between Monday 29th August and Friday 9th September and visit Thurso, Tain, Dingwall, Ullapool, Gairloch, Plockton, Teangue, Broadford, Portree, Dunvegan, Staffin, Aberdeen, Nairn, Inverness, Newtonmore, Drumnadrochit, Mallaig, Acharacle and Caol.
The play is aimed at children aged between three and five years old. It is also suitable for older children and at the majority of performances, primary one, two and three pupils will be in attendance.
Hùb Hàb air Ghleus is based on the theme of music and song which is explored through the friendship of the characters Hùb and Hàb played by Gaelic speaking actors MJ Deans (Hùb) and Calum Barker (Hàb). During the play these characters help each other to discover their own musical gifts.
This tour follows on from the success of the initial tour in April which was aimed specifically at Gaelic nurseries in the Central Belt. A second tour took place at the end of June and gave an additional opportunity to pre-school community groups and school groups in the Central Belt to see it. The tour also included visits to Gaelic pre-school groups and primary schools in Perthshire.
‘Hùb Hàb air Ghleus’ was written and directed by Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Drama Officer Angus Macleod, with additional musical support from Gaelic singer Kirsteen Graham and Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Fèisgoil Manager Eilidh Mackenzie, who wrote some of the song material specifically for the play.
Fèisean nan Gàidheal is very grateful for the funding provided by Bòrd na Gàidhlig to deliver its existing drama service and to develop and deliver new drama projects for early years age groups.
