Fèis Inbhir Narainn seek new Chair

Fèis Inbhir Narainn are in search of a new chairperson, after their current chair, Jim Falconer, announced he intends to step down at the next AGM.

An AGM has been called for Monday 12th June 2017 to elect a new Chair, as well as other committee members.

Lead role

The main responsibilities of the Chair will include running the meetings, overseeing fèis activities and helping to organise the committee. The Chair would also work with the fèis co-ordinator Rhona MacDonald, and the music class administrator, Elaine MacPhail, whom help oversee the day-to-day running of the fèis activities.

 Expanding fèis

Fèis Inbhir Narainn currently run eighteen after-school music classes a week throughout the year for children and adults across Nairnshire, culminating in their annual one day fèis which attracts over ninety people.

As of 2016, Fèis Inbhir Narainn also launched its own Fèis Inbhir Narainn/Caledonian Cèilidh Trail, giving local advanced musicians aged 16-22 the chance to tour and play at venues across the local area for several weeks during the summer holidays.

Rewarding role

On leaving the role of Chair, Jim Falconer said:

“The Gaelic tradition is rich in music song and dance. I am only sorry that it was so late in life that I embraced traditional music. I was happy to be involved in encouraging the next generation to learn these skills and enjoy the fun and participation that I have experienced. I thank the team involved in the running of the Fèis and for making the role of chair so enjoyable.”

The role of chair, which is a voluntary position, is ideally suited to someone who is good at managing people and has high organisational skills. Computer skills would also be beneficial but not essential.

Training can also be available through Fèisean nan Gàidheal, the national body that supports Fèisean, if required.

The fèis AGM will take place at “Caerlaverock”, Alton Burn Road, Nairn on Monday 12th June 2017 from 7pm. Everyone with an interest in the activities of the fèis is welcome along to the meeting.
