Six Fèis groups from across Scotland are celebrating funding support from the Co-op Community Fund.
The Co-op Community Fund distributes 1% of money spent in store on own brand goods and services, with shopping bag fees also added in, amongst three local causes nominated for support in each funding round. Co-op members then choose which local cause they’d like to support, and have awarded more than £20 million to good causes all across the UK since September 2016.
In the latest funding round four Fèis groups have received almost £15,000 altogether towards project and equipment costs: Fèis Chataibh (Goslpie) received £3480, Fèis Inbhir Narainn (Nairn) received £4320, Fèis Tìr an Eòrna (North Uist) was awarded £5440 and Fèis Latharna (Oban & Lorn) received £1400. Meanwhile another two Fèisean have been accepted in to the next funding round: Fèis Arainn (Arran) and Fèis an Tairbeirt (Tarbert, Argyll).
Fèis Inbhir Narainn Co-ordinator Rhona MacDonald said,
“This amazing fund is making a huge difference to communities across the country and we were delighted to be included in the last round. We were overwhelmed by our total and we’d like to sincerely thank the Co-op and the local members who supported us, and we’d also like to congratulate the other groups who received funding.’
The Co-op Community Fund will re-open for applications in Spring 2018: visit www.coop.co.uk/membership/local-community-fund to find out more. Meanwhile the latest round is underway – why not consider taking out Co-op membership and supporting a good cause near you!
