When the news hit that we shouldn’t be gathering in groups of more than two people it became clear that Fèis Phàislig were not going to be able to continue running their weekly music classes as normal. However this didn’t hold them up for too long and they begann teaching their weekly Saturday classes online using Zoom. There are 40 young people taking part and attending lessons on the fiddle with Mairi Voinot, the guitar with Chris Ferrie and on the accordion with Joseph Peach. The Chair of Fèis Phàislig, Grant McFarlane said;
I’d like to say a big thank you to our tutors, participants and their families for helping us make the transition online for our Weekly Lessons. The feedback has been really positive with many of the young people commenting on how much they are enjoying it. Many of the parents have also passed on their thanks to us for keeping things going and giving their young people something else to focus on whilst stuck in the house.
Grant is happy to chat to any of the Fèisean who would like to discuss teaching their classes online and if you think it is something that your Fèis could deliver, please get in touch with your lead officer.
