The Fèis Arainn committee are very happy to be running a normal, face-to-face Fèis this year between the 26th and 29th of July at Arran High School. Over four days, participants will get the chance to learn lot of new skills including music, singing, drama, shinty and art. All participants will also get the opportunity to learn some Gaelic.
Young people who have never attended the Fèis before will be very welcome alongside children who have been to the Fèis a few times before. There will be something at the Fèis for everyone, from complete beginners to skilled and experienced musicians. No previous knowledge of how to read music or previous experience of traditional music is required to attend.
Participants will be able to choose three subjects when they are registering for the Fèis and one extra, in case their original class choices are already full. The participants will arrange a piece to play at the final concert in their first-choice class and will attend this subject twice a day. Fèis Arainn will do their very best to ensure that each child can get into their first-choice subject.
This year Fèis Arainn are also offering afternoon sessions for secondary school pupils. They can choose from a master class in their preferred instrument, group work sessions or film making workshops.
Fèis Arainn is fun and friendly. We hope that participants will be able to develop their playing skills, grow more confident and learn about traditional Scottish Gaelic and culture. All of our tutors are talented and professional with experience of teaching young people. The Fèis Arainn committee and volunteers work hard to make sure that everything runs well and in accordance with their health and safety policies.
Teaching at the Fèis this year are John Somerville (accordion), Becky Hill (clarsach), Artair Donald (drama and Gaelic), Stevie Fyvie (drumming), Arran local Gillian Frame (fiddle), Deirdre Graham and Eilidh Cormack (singing), Calum MacIlroy (guitar), Ross Miller (piping), Bobby Crowe (shinty), Angus Binnie (whistle) and Heather MacLeod (Celtic Art).
Final day for applications – Friday 10th of June.
