Tutor Training

Training from Fèisean nan Gàidheal

At the beginning of the year, Iain F Macleod was contracted to design and construct a new tutor training course for Fèisean nan Gàidheal in two parts – a beginners’ course for those who had no experience of teaching at a fèis level before and a more advanced course for those who have taught but are keen to develop their personal skills. As well as gearing this course towards attracting a new pool of tutors from across Scotland, it was also to strengthen and nurture the existing database of tutors both in informal fèis and formal Fèisgoil settings.

The foundation course will look at the skills required to become a successful tutor such as looking at child protection, teaching and learning methods, dealing with different levels in one class, Gaelic phrases and games, how to deal with different levels in one class and how to make use of local resources and facilities.

The advanced course will focus on all the above but in more depth and will invite discussion and conversation on personal experience and allow for a more interactive session.

We will be holding a training day on Saturday the 25th of November in the Spectrum Centre in Inverness from 9am – 4pm for a group of confident, competent and talented leaders to learn, under Iain F’s direction, how to deliver these courses. Iain F will go through the courses and detail how each section is to be delivered and what the courses’ aims are. He will have examples of lesson plans as well as advice on how to keep children’s interest piqued and how to make the most of resources.

After this training day, we will be in a position to have the courses delivered by these leaders to potential and existing tutors across Scotland in different venues and at different times of the year, increasing our outreach and inclusivity and affording learning opportunities to a larger number of people.

If you have experience of teaching and think you would be an ideal candidate for leading this course, please have a look at our application form and tell us more about yourself. This course will be free of charge.
