Project Update:
The project sought funding to run a number of storytelling workshops, giving participants a chance to learn about storytelling and generally to try something new. The workshops are a general introduction and exploration in one of our oldest crafts. Culminating in a small cèilidh show for the local community.
Brief Resume:
Franziska Droll is a self-employed, professional storyteller and part of the TRACS Storytelling Directory.
Having been telling tales for many years for various audiences, Franziska has started to specialise in sensory storytelling- especially for people living with dementia, people with special needs and children.
Outcome / Aims:
The aim was it to start a pilot project, to encourage creativity and fearlessness towards the spoken word/ storytelling. Something that Franziska achieved. Each workshop was 2.5hrs long, of which an hour was spent on theory and the second half on putting this theory into practise.
The participants created stories themselves, with the help of individual story bags holding a few items to spark ideas and creativity. They were in teams of 2-3 people and after making a tale, were presented to the larger group.
In the last two workshops the participants we presented with a traditional tale to work on in small groups, the tale was split into individual sections. Afterwards everyone told their part of the story, piecing together the whole tale towards the end.
It’s was a fun, enthusiastic and none pressured atmosphere. Each participant has grown with each workshop and became more confident in their ability of telling.
