This year’s Gaelic Drama Summer School will take place in Portree, Isle of Skye between the 6th and 11th of July 2026. The residential school is open to secondary school-aged Gaelic speakers and whether involved in a local youth theatre, studying drama at school or interested in trying drama for the first time, all are welcome.
Angus Macleod, Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Drama Officer, organises the event each year. He said: “We’re very happy to announce that this year’s artistic director will be Fergus Munro. He has a wealth of acting and teaching experience and is also very musical, often putting his talents into practice in many of theatre-in-education projects we produce for schools. These talents have also benefited the Gaelic Drama Summer School in recent years as he’s been a valuable member of the tuition team for the last three years. It’s great to have him back this year in this role and I look forward to seeing what he has in store for participants.”
Fergus said: “I’m really looking forward to SSD26 and my first time in charge. The level of acting talent and creativity the participants each year is always very encouraging, and I’m looking forward to more of the same this summer.”
The cost to participate is £160 which includes all tuition, evening activity, food and accommodation. Accommodation and dinner at the School hostel will be arranged for participants travelling to Portree on Sunday the 5th of July.
Financial support is available for families via the Simon Mackenzie Trust Bursary which is administered by Fèisean nan Gàidheal. There are only 20 places available so make sure to apply as soon as you can to secure your place.
